Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh blackberries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 4 cups cold water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

Instructions:

  1. Combine blackberries, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, and 1 tbsp of lemon juice in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 5-7 minutes until the berries burst and the liquid becomes a deep purple.
  3. Remove from heat and pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing on the berries with a spoon to extract all the concentrated juice; discard the seeds.
  4. Let the syrup cool for 5 minutes.
  5. In a large pitcher, combine the fresh squeezed lemon juice and 4 cups of cold water.
  6. Add the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar and whisk vigorously until the sugar is completely dissolved and the liquid is clear.
  7. Pour the cooled blackberry syrup into the lemon base and stir gently to combine.
